Feeling the story for the cobbler, the banker decided to help him. He gave the cobbler a thousand pounds and said, “ Save this for your future.”
At first, the cobbler was thrilled. But soon, he began to worry about the money. He hid it in this house, but every little noise made him anxious thinking that thieves might be coming to steal it. He couldn’t sleep at night and even stopped singing at work because he was so worried about the hidden money.
After days of sleepless nights and constant worry, the cobbler realized something important. The money that was supposed to bring him security was stealing his happiness and peace of mind.
He went back to the banker, returned the thousand pounds, and said, “I would rather live simply and be happy.”
The cobbler went back to his old life, working cheerfully and singing while he made shoes. He had learned that true happiness doesn’t come from wealth but from finding joy in the simple things in life.

এক ছিল সুখী মুচি, যে প্রতিদিন জুতা বানাতো এবং আনন্দের সাথে গান গাইতে গাইতে কাজ করত। তার বিশ্বাস ছিল, অনেক টাকা থাকলেই সুখ আসবে এমন নয়; বরং যা আছে তাতেই সন্তুষ্ট থাকাই আসল সুখ।
একদিন তার ধনী প্রতিবেশী, একজন ব্যাংকার, এসে জিজ্ঞাসা করল, ”তুমি দিনে কত টাকা উপার্জন করো?”
মুচি হাসি মুখে বলল, ” যতটুকু পাই, তাতেই দিন কেটে যায়।”
মুচির অবস্থায় দুঃখ পেয়ে ব্যাংকার তাকে সাহায্য করার সিদ্ধান্ত নিল। সে মুচিকে এক হাজার পাউন্ড দিল এবং বলল, ”এই টাকা জমিয়ে রাখো,ভবিষ্যতে কাজে লাগবে।”
প্রথমে মুচি খুব খুশি হল। কিন্তু অল্প কিছু দিনের মধ্যেই সে টাকার চিন্তায় অস্থির হয়ে পড়ল। সে টাকা বাড়িতে লুকিয়ে রাখল,কিন্তু ছোট্ট কোনো শব্দ হলেই মনে হতো চোর এসেছে টাকা গুলো নিতে। রাতে তার ঘুম আসত না, এমনকি টাকার চিন্তায় কাজ করার সময়ও গান গাওয়া বন্ধ হয়ে গেল।
কয়েক রাত এভাবে নির্ঘুম কাটানোর পর মুচি বুঝতে পারলো , যে টাকা তার জীবনে নিরাপত্তা আনার কথা, সেটাই তার সুখ কেড়ে নিচ্ছে।
সে ব্যাংকারের কাছে গিয়ে টাকাগুলো ফেরত দিয়ে বলল, “ এই টাকা আমার আনন্দ কেড়ে নিয়েছে। আমি বরং সহজ-সরল জীবন যাপন করেই সুখী থাকব।”
মিচি আবার তার পুরোনো জীবনে ফিরে গেল, জুতা বানাতে বানাতে আনন্দের সাথে সাথে গান গািতে লাগল। সে উপলব্ধি করল, সত্যিকারের সুখ টাকা-পয়সায় নয়, বরং জীবনের ছোট ছোট আনন্দ আর সন্তুষ্টির মধ্যেই লুকিয়ে আছে।
