Answer: There lived a woodcutter in a village. One day he was cutting wood close to a river. Instantly, his axe fell into the river.
The river was heavy. The woodcutter did not know how to dive. So, he sat under the tree unhappily. Then a marvelous thing happened. A beautiful spirit becomes visible before the woodcutter. She asked him why he was crying there. The woodcutter told her the whole situation.
Then the spirit felt pity for him and remarked his hope to help him. She assured him that he was certain to get his axe back. Saying this, the sprite went under the water of the river.
After some time she came back with a golden axe.
She inquired about him, but the woodcutter replied that one was not. Again she went under the water and showed him a silver axe. But this time also the woodcutter refused to take it.
The sprite again went under the water and brought an iron axe. The woodcutter expressed his appreciation for getting his axe back. At that time, the spirit gave him the other two axes as a present for his honesty. She said, “These two axes are present for you. I’m really satisfied with your Honesty.”

বিস্তৃত অর্থে, সততা হলো পৃথিবীটা যেমনটি আছি ঠিক তেমনি দেখার সংকল্প, কোন কিছুকে অস্বীকার না করা বা বাস্তবতাকে বিস্তৃতভাবে না দেখা। যদি তুমি বাস্তব পরিস্থিতিকে সঠিকভাবে দেখতে না চাও, তাহলে কীভাবে সেগুলোর সমাধান করবে?
সততা জীবনের অন্যতম গুণ। প্রবাদ আছে, সততাই সর্বোত্তম নীতি। যা আমাদের কথা কাজ ও চিন্তার সত্যবাদিতার গুরুত্ব তুলে ধরে না,বরং এটি অন্যদের বিশ্বাস ও প্রশংসা অর্জন করতে পারে।
একদিন এক গ্রামে এক কাঠুরে বাস করত। সে প্রতিদিন কাঠ কাটত। একদিন কাঠ কাটতে কাটতে হঠাৎ তার কুড়ালটি হাত ফসকে নদীর গভীর জলে পড়ে গেল। নদীর স্রোত ছিল খুবই প্রবল,আর কাঠুরে সাঁতার জানত না। তাই সে দুঃখ ভারাক্রান্ত হয়ে এক গাছের নিচে বসে কান্না করতে লাগল।
ঠিক, তখনই এক আশ্চর্য ঘটনা ঘটল! হঠাৎ এক সুন্দরী পরী তার সামনে আবির্ভূত হলেন।তিনি জিজ্ঞেস করলেন, “ তুমি কাঁদছ কেন?”
কাঠুরে তার পুরো ঘটনাটি খুলে বলল।পরী তার প্রতি সহানুভূতি প্রকাশ করে বললেন, চিন্তা কোরো না,আমি তোমার কুঠার এনে দেব।
এরপর তিনি নদীর গভীরে ডুব দিলেন। কিছুক্ষন পরে তিনি ফিরে এলেন, হাতে একটি সোনার কুঠির নিয়ে। তিনি কুঠুরি টিকে জিজ্ঞেস করলেন, এটি কি তোমার কুড়াল ?
কাঠুরে কুড়ালটি দেখে বললেন, “না এটা আমার নয়”।
পরী আবার নদীতে ডুব দিলেন এবং কিছুক্ষন পরে একটি রুপার কুড়াল নিয়ে এলেন। তিনি জিজ্ঞেস করলেন, এটা কি তোমার কুড়াল?
কাঠুরে সৎভাবে উত্তর দিল, “না, এটিও আমার না”।
তৃতীয়বারের মতো পরী নদীতে ডুব দিলেন এবং এবার একটি লোহার কুড়াল নিয়ে ফিরে এলেন।
কাঠুরে খুশি হয়ে বলে উঠল,হ্যাঁ! এটিই আমার কুড়াল। পরী কাঠুরের সততায় খুব সন্তুষ্ট হয়ে বললেন, “ তোমার সততার জন্য আমি তোমাকে উপহার হিসেবে সোনার ও রুপার কুড়ালও দিয়ে দিলাম।”
