একদিন, এক ধনী লোকের বাড়ি থেকে একটি দামি গহনা হারিয়ে যায়। তিনি সব জায়গায় খুঁজে দেখলেন, কিন্তু পেলেন না। তাই তিনি এক বিজ্ঞ বিচারকের কাছে সাহায্য চাইলেন।
বিচারক বাড়ির সব চাকরদের ডাকলেন। সবাই বলল,তারা নির্দোষ। বিচারক তখন একটি বুদ্ধিমান পরিকল্পনা করলেন। তিনি প্রত্যেক চাকরকে একই মাপের একটি লাঠি দিলেন এবং বললেন, পরের দিন এসে লাঠি জমা দিতে। তিনি আরও বললেন, আসল চোরের লাঠি এক ইঞ্চি বড় হবে।
নির্দোষ চাকররা লাঠি যেমন ছিল তেমনই রাখেন। কিন্তু চোর ভয় পেয়ে নিজের লাঠি এক ইঞ্চি কেটে ফেলল। পরের দিন, যখন সবাই লাঠি নিয়ে এলো, বিচারক সহজেই চোরকে চিনতে পারলেন। তারপর চোরকে শাস্তি দেওয়া হলো।
নৈতিক শিক্ষা : সত্য কখনো লুকানো থাকে না, শেষ পর্যন্ত তা প্রকাশিত হয়।
